Stavernfestivalen is located between the two cities Larvik and Stavern, an hour and a half south of Oslo.

Whether you travel directly to the festival from abroad, or want to make a stop in Oslo to explore the capital, your final destination should always be Larvik. This guide shows you all the ways to get here.

BY PLANE

If you’re traveling from abroad you can fly to either two of Oslos airports:

OSLO GARDERMOEN

Travel time is 2,5 hours by train to Larvik, 20 mins to Oslo. This is Oslos main airport with the most flight options.

From Gardermoen you can catch the train to Larvik.  Do NOT use the airport express train «Flytoget» as this only gets you to Oslo. Instead use the regular NSB train called “R11 Skien” to Larvik.

OSLO SANDEFJORD (TORP)

Travel time is 25 mins by train to Larvik. This is a much smaller airport located in Sandefjord, two hours away from Oslo, with fewer destinations and flights.

From Torp you can also catch the train to Larvik. This as well is the NSB train “R11 Skien” to Larvik.

BY FERRY

If you’re traveling from Sweden or Denmark you have two other options besides taking a plane:

LARVIK - HIRTSHALS FERRY

Departing from the town Hirtshals north in Denmark the ColorLine «SuperSpeed» ferry gets you directly to Larvik in just 4 hours.

With prices from 100NOK this is by far the cheaper option getting from Denmark to Norway for the festival.

SANDEFJORD - STRÖMSTAD FERRY

With departures twice a day the ColorLine ferry from the western town Strömstad in Sweden gets you to Sandefjord in just 2,5 hours.

From Sandefjord you can get to Larvik in multiple ways, with train being both the fastest and most convenient way. Just hop on to the «R11 Skien» train to Larvik, this takes you about 20mins.

BY TRAIN

If you’re going to Larvik by train in Norway there’s only one train you can use, the NSB  R11 Skien”.

FROM OSLO TO LARVIK

Traveling from Oslo or Drammen to Larvik with train is easy, just hop on the “R11 Skien” and you’ll be in Larvik in just 2 hours.

FROM SWEDEN TO THE FESTIVAL

If you want to get to the festival by train you would have to take a train to Oslo, and then change for another one going from Oslo to Larvik. The best options are:

Stockholm to Oslo (7 hour trip)
Göteborg to Oslo (4 hour trip)

Next step: getting from Larvik to the festival site

Great job! Somehow you’ve made it all the way to Larvik. Now you just have to get from there to the festival site. This is how.

WALKING

FROM LARVIK

The walking distance from Larvik to the festival is about 2km, there is a sidewalk all the way.

FROM STAVERN

The walking distance from Stavern to the festival is about 4km, there is also a sidewalk all the way here.

BY BUS

FROM LARVIK OR STAVERN

When going by bus to the festival you have to use the VKT «01»-line. This bus departs approximately every half hour. The stop you’re getting off at is called «Rødberg», this it located right outside the entrance of the festival.

From Larvik: VKT line «01 Stavern/Kysthospitalet» to Rødberg. This trip takes about 5 mins.
From Stavern: VKT line «01 Larvik/Sandefjord» to Rødberg. This trip takes about 10 mins.

FROM SANDEFJORD OR TØNSBERG

From here your fastest option would be to hop on the «R11 Skien» train to Larvik, and then use the same bus as mentioned above, the VKT «01 Stavern/Kysthospitalet» to Rødberg.
